The Artillery presents

Holiday

A contemporary baroque play about crisis.

Inspired by images of sunbathers on Phuket Beach a day after the 2004 tsunami, Holiday is a quiet contemplation of life’s catastrophic events, performed by acclaimed British/Australian actors Richard Pyros and Amesh Edireweera.

What drives us to escape silence? In a moment of relaxation, two people unwittingly engage. Spontaneous, unaffected and thrillingly real, innocent discussion becomes an exploration of private fantasy, hidden anxiety, personal mythology, and the most inexplicable behaviour. From the bar stool to the chaise longue to the wading pool, Holiday is the journey of humanity’s simple complexities.

Director and performer Richard Pyros returns to the UK with a timely play that speaks to multiple post-pandemic crises. The cost of living, Brexit, two wars... have forced us all to reconsider our relationships to leisure, travel, escape and even other people. The Baroque songs of the piece give an emotionality where words are not enough.

This is a rare opportunity to see two local/global actors here together in London, at the top of their game.

Holiday is an original text by Raimondo Cortese. ___________________________________________________________________________
